Cooling and Air Conditioning System Design
Most types of building and many industrial processes require cooling of one form or another, and NIFES has the design experience to provide a technical solution that is closely matched to the user’s needs.
Recent projects have involved naturally-cooled buildings and most of the widely-used mechanical cooling systems, including:
- Chilled water fan-coil units
- Chilled beams
- New and replacement chillers
- Variable air volume (VAV)
- VRF (or VRV) fan-coil units and cassettes
- Close-control computer room air-conditioning
- Air-source heat pumps
- Ground-source heat-pumps
Our approach to cooling systems is consistent with our approach to most design challenges; we begin by ensuring we have a thorough understanding of the client’s aspirations, as well as the project constraints. Each new client will have a different expectation for carbon emissions, comfort levels, budget, operating cost and life-cycle cost. Each site and each existing building also has opportunities and restrictions that must be taken into account.
When a Kent hospital needed their chilled water system upgraded and expanded they turned to NIFES. Our innovative approach allowed existing chillers in a confined space to be replaced and new chillers to be added externally. This £825,000 project delivered the resilient solution they needed to serve their CT scanner and ward/theatre systems.
We believe that NIFES has the insight and the design experience to provide tailor-made cooling solutions that are appropriate for each environment and every client. One size does not fit all.
