NIFES Chartered Building Surveyors are often called upon to assess specific building defects across a varied range of building types. Building defects can range from cracks in masonry to leaking roofs or rotted timber elements to spalling concrete
NIFES Surveyors will assess the specific defect and carry out the necessary investigations to ascertain causation. Subsequently the surveyor will produce a detailed report to discuss the defect. The detailed report will explain the defect and probable causation, the report will then offer recommendations on remedial intervention or recommend necessary further investigations and studies
If necessary, the surveyor will monitor a particular defect for a specific period of time, this is to be certain the analysis of the causation and subsequent recommendations are completely correct.
Defect Remedial Work
NIFES services also encompass the project management of the remedial work that are identified in the detailed report.
NIFES will prepare specifications and a schedule of works detailing the remedial works to be carried out, this can be issued by the surveyor to a number of building contractors for pricing. This gives competitive tendering and ensures the best market value for the works is obtained. The surveyor will then recommend the most appropriate contractor to carry out the works.
