Graylingwell Park is the UK’s largest, carbon neutral new homes development.
Set in 90 acres of Listed parks and gardens, the project will ultimately provide at least 750 homes, plus extensive community facilities; more than half are built or under construction and NIFES continues to support the client. All dwellings are designed to at least Level 4 of the Code for Sustainable Homes.
NIFES conceived and developed a critically important energy strategy, then designed the Energy Centre and, working closely with the developer, designed and configured an extensive heating network to operate within a complex, multi-phased installation approach.
The Energy Centre was designed to incorporate two 500kWe CHP engines (Combined Heat & Power), plus high-efficiency, modular, gas-fired boilers with economisers, utilising thermal stores. In addition to the low-carbon Energy Centre, the development includes photovoltaic arrays, super-efficient buildings and around 40% of off-site renewable.
Graylingwell Park development’s environmental credentials were positively recognised at the 2010 House Builder Awards, where it won ‘Best Low or Carbon Zero Initiative’.
The development also scooped ‘Sustainable Larger Housing Project of the Year’ at the Sustainable Housing Awards 2010.
