PROJECT BACKGROUND

Peabody was founded in 1862 by the remarkable American banker, diplomat and philanthropist George Peabody.

They turned to NIFES to evaluate the potential for photovoltaic panel installations in many of their 20,000 London homes. We surveyed 794 housing blocks and 2,638 street properties and identified the greatest potential for PV installations.

OUR APPROACH

A capacity of 6.6MWp was shown to be viable across all block and street properties, generating 5,013MWh per annum. NIFES was asked to design and manage these installations, to handle the Planning process and lead negotiations with the local DNO.

The contract was scheduled to run from July 2011 to March 2012 installing 6.6MWp in ten phases. However, following the reduction of feed-in-tariffs in the 2011 Autumn Budget, the scope was reduced to 1.6MWp. Duties included:

  • Quality checks on 20% of G83 properties
  • Quality checks on 100% of G59 properties
  • Commercial management of the contract
  • 30 day performance review of all properties
SUMMARY

Project Results

The completed project provided an installed capacity of 1.75MWp across 273 properties providing an annual saving of £500k from a capital investment of £5m. With extensive design expertise in PV, high-voltage and embedded generation NIFES is ideally placed to deliver building-mounted or ground-mounted installations of any scale.
