PROJECT BACKGROUND

The 1873 Renfrew Town Hall has been extensively refurbished and extended with the help of an £800,000 Lottery grant.

A new museum charts Renfrew’s place in aviation history:

  • The first aeroplane to cross the Atlantic was built nearby
  • The site, in 1912, of Scotland’s first municipal airport
  • In 1948 Renfrew was the UK’s third busiest airport

OUR APPROACH

The challenge for NIFES’ designers was to make the building as comfortable and energy efficient as
it could be, given the limitations of the A-listed building.

Our designers had to have a detailed knowledge of the building and apply creative solutions to ensure the ornate plasterwork and mosaic stone floors were not disturbed.

The new Museum at the rear of the building and the new Marriage Suite above required creative design techniques to provide comfortable and energy efficient environments.
